Justin’s Announces Expansion of Recall

On October 11, 2012, the Food and Drug Administration announced that Justin’s was expanding its voluntary recall of select peanut butter products in connection with Sunland Inc.  The products in the expanded voluntary recall may be contaminated with Salmonella.

Justin’s almond butter, hazelnut butter, and candy bars are not affected by this recall, even though Sunland Inc. recalled similar products.  Justin’s does not use nuts from Sunland Inc. for these products.

The expanded voluntary recall by Justin’s comes after Sunland reported that 29 different people reported illnesses from Salmonella between June 11, 2012 and September 2, 2012.  The illnesses were reported in the following states: Washington, California, Arizona, Texas, Louisiana, Missouri, Illinois, Minnesota, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, North Carolina, Virginia, Connecticut, New Jersey and Maryland.

Justin’s has included the following products in its expanded recall:

16 oz Natural Classic Peanut Butter Jars
1.15 oz Natural Classic Peanut Butter Squeeze Packs
16 oz Organic Classic Peanut Butter Jars
1.15 oz Organic Classic Peanut Butter Squeeze Packs
16 oz Natural Honey Peanut Butter Jars
1.15 oz Natural Honey Peanut Butter Squeeze Packs
.5 oz Natural Honey Peanut Butter Squeeze Packs (provided in the Starbucks Protein Bistro Box)

1.15 oz Organic Honey Peanut Butter Squeeze Packs
16 oz Natural Chocolate Peanut Butter Jars
1.15 oz Natural Chocolate Peanut Butter Squeeze Packs
1.4 oz Organic Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups
1.4 oz Organic Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

Only certain “Best by dates” are involved in the recall.  You can contact Justin’s for more information.  You can find the Best By dates by the UPC code on the jars.  The Best By date is on the back of the squeeze packs, and the date is located on the back seal for the peanut butter cups.

Call Justin’s at 303-449-9559 if you have other questions.
